In a wild turn of events after an eventful UFC 284, lightweight Dan Hooker has come out accusing yesterday’s main event winner Islam Makhachev of cheating. ‘The Hangman’ lashed out at the Dagestani in a series of tweets that initially left fans scratching their heads while asking Hooker for more answers. The 33-year-old continued his initial tweet with a few others while finally revealing that it was Makhachev he was talking about.
Although there has been no response from the lightweight champ’s team, Hooker also has not provided any solid proof to back his allegations.
Dan Hooker alleges Islam Makhachev used I.V. to rehydrate after his weight cut
‘Hangman’ initially sent out a tweet alleging an unknown individual for using I.V.s to rehydrate. As per USADA regulations, the use of IV is prohibited and fighters caught practicing it are often punished with a lengthy ban. The main reasoning behind it is that athletes could use it to inject PEDs into their bodies.
The 33-year-old then followed it up with a series of tweets, eventually naming Islam Makhachev as the fighter he was talking about.
Fans of the Russian didn’t react too kindly to Hooker’s words as they called him ‘salty’ for his previous loss along with yesterday’s fight, which Alexander Volkanovski lost after a close battle.
As of now, there has been no official update regarding this accusation laid down by the New Zealander, but considering the seriousness of IV usage, we might expect a response from Makhachev’s team sooner rather than later. Stay tuned.
