Conor McGregor’s return, rumored for some time later this year, could possibly turn out to be the biggest-ever comeback in any combat sports. Now, for a superstar of his caliber, it would make sense for him, the UFC, and Dana White, that a return takes place at probably one of the biggest mega events in the promotion’s history. With just a few months away from UFC 300 and with McGregor’s comeback looming large, it appears that Dana White and the top brass do have something big brewing behind the scenes away from the prying eyes of the media and fans.
UFC New weight divisions at 165 lbs and 175 lbs division in the works – rumors
As per rumors, now widespread all over social media, the UFC CEO is all set to announce two new weight classes. Yes, you heard that right. Dana White has once again decided to go against his own words. As it appears, the two new divisions, rumored to be 165lbs and 175lbs would officially mean the end of the now welterweight class.
Not surprisingly, all this is being done for the UFC’s biggest ever star – Conor McGregor. Fan accounts and social media reports suggest Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler would square off at UFC 300 for the 160lbs division.
As of now, no formal announcements on the UFC introducing a new weight class have been confirmed. It’s crucial to remember, though, that things can alter and the return of ‘The Notorious’ could well possibly aid in this rumored move.
The future of UFC’s welterweight and middleweight division
The biggest question here is what would happen to Leon Edwards and Dricus du Plessis and their titles. The welterweight and middleweight champ, especially the former, could have a lot to lose if this news does at one point get officially confirmed. Will ‘Rocky’ eventually end up fighting for one of the titles? Or will he keep his title and compete for yet another title in one of the new divisions?
Eventually, only time can tell, and with UFC 300 inching closer day by day, it’s expected that Dana White will pretty much confirm it in the next few days. So stay tuned and don’t forget to check out our latest content for all the big updates
